Loft 1060

Private Residency | VIENNA

Lofts, with their often workshop-like and industrial appearance and spatial arrangement, have their own clientele with mostly very independent living requirements. The spatial structure is open and the functional areas often merge into one another - as do work areas, hobbies and special interests, which tend to be disorganized and overlapping based on the space available. This is why many lofts lack warmth, compactness and spatial orientation.

It was the same in this case.

The loft was purchased at a time when apartment prices in Vienna had begun to skyrocket. And the owners didn't actually want a loft, but a well-structured apartment in an old building that reflects the character of living in Vienna.

At the same time, however, there are a few zones in Vienna's city center where commercial buildings can be discovered in recessed gardens and courtyards, where it is possible to live splendidly and quietly - especially for people who like to work at home and can pursue a variety of interests there.

These former workshop buildings dedicated to residential use usually have few owners and large, invitingly original living arrangements.

The interior designer's task was to turn a cold former workshop with a large area and only 3 rooms into a warm, homely and very sophisticated working and living atmosphere for 2 people.

The aim was to incorporate artistic elements such as pictures and objects from the couple's history and to create furniture ensembles that combine antiques and modern, timeless elements in an exciting way.

The spatial concept called for a center in which togetherness with family, guests, customers, but also the normal togetherness of everyday life could be well experienced.

A spacious office with 2 workstations and a library was newly created and partitioned off with concealed sliding doors so that you can work quietly even when guests are in the building. Two checkrooms, quiet zones and sleeping areas were also created. This was combined into a special private area.

The room layout was also adapted so that the elevator led directly into the apartment. A foyer was also incorporated and the wet rooms were separated peripherally.

The result is a particularly rare and very individual, original arrangement - by Viennese standards - in which it is wonderful to live and work.
